Privacy & Data Use
Written for humans, not lawyers.
This page is maintained by the Skawt team to answer common security and privacy questions about the app. Skawt is currently in a beta testing environment — no real emergency services are contacted, and no real personal data is collected from demo accounts.
What Skawt collects
Your verified identity (once), the reports you create, the contacts you invite, and — only when you enable it — your location. That's it.
What Skawt never does
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers or brokers. Ever. Skawt is funded by families, communities, and vetted partners.
Location is off unless you enable it
Precise location is used only when the app is open, when you press SOS, or when a nearby alert is active. You can decline and still use Skawt — some map features simply won't be personalised.
Photos, video, and voice are yours
Attachments are optional. When added to a report, only verified responders and moderators see them until the incident is resolved.
Anonymous by default
Public reports use your chosen avatar name. Your legal name is only visible to Skawt admins and responders when legally required.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Once the production backend goes live, sessions will use httpOnly cookies, roles will be enforced server-side, and access to sensitive data will be audit-logged.
Retention
Reports and their attachments are retained for the minimum period needed to help your community. Detailed retention windows will be published before public launch.
Delete everything
You can export or erase your account at any time from Settings → Privacy. Erase removes reports linked to your account within 30 days, except where law requires retention.

Beta testing notice
Skawt is currently in a supervised beta. Reports submitted here do not reach real emergency services, and demo accounts use sample data only. Formal certifications (SOC 2, ISO 27001) are not claimed at this stage. This page will be updated with formal legal terms before the public launch.
